About The Glass Bar

The Glass Bar is London's sole WOMEN ONLY Bar. The women who visit the Glass Bar are diverse in many areas, including: class, age, cultural background, race, sexuality, religion. The common denominator is that they are all very interesting women.

Tucked away outside Euston train station is a little stone building that looks long forgotten. But it isn't. Inside this Tardis-like structure, which commuters rush by without a backwards glance, is probably London's best lesbian venue - the Glass Bar.

It is exciting knocking on its large wooden door because you never know who will answer the door, as anyone passing on the inside can - and does. Reports that Shane from The L Word was on door duty last Friday evening have been grossly exaggerated. It was Dana. Regardless of who lets you in you're guaranteed they'll have a smile on their face - the Glass Bar has that affect on people.

The Glass Bar stands out from the plethora of other venues for lesbian and bisexual women because it is the only bar/club in the capital to maintain a women-only policy. This proves a unique selling point as women of all ages, backgrounds, races, sizes and styles flock here to sit in the big, comfy chairs downstairs or go up the spiral staircase - very Alice in Wonderland - to the top floor where they can admire the fairy lights, colourful wall - hangings and glittery purple loo seat. The bar serves reasonably priced drinks and in the future plans to serve hot and cold food that always fills the gap. As the place is so intimate staff always have time to chat to you so if you are alone you don't feel like a total freak. There is no pressure to wear the hottest jeans or have the latest haircut; the Glass Bar is about being comfortable with you.

Another quality that sets the Glass Bar apart from its rivals is the incredible variety of events it hosts. It runs two different monthly book groups, including Shugs the Word, dedicated to the work of black and minority ethnic authors; the comedy night Slap n' Tickle; a speed dating night and weekly club night Chill Out and Lounge on a Saturday. Also Behind The Mic is on the first Friday of the month and has a very loyal following...it's a fusion of live music, comedy and spoken word.
