Arts & Community Overview
The Glass Bar is about to take up an exciting new role as an Arts & Community Centre for the London women's LBTQH community - i.e. lesbian, bisexual, trans, queer and heterosexual women. To achieve this goal, an organisational restructure is currently underway. A Board of Directors will soon be in place, taking responsibility for business strategy, and overseeing two operational arms of the business:
A Community Interest Company (CIC) will be responsible for fund raising, finance, legal issues, human resources, marketing, IT and web development, and all day to day business functions.
A registered Charity will be responsible for planning, scheduling and managing an exciting and innovative programme of arts events, social events and community outreach work designed to appeal to and include all sections of the London women's LBTQH community. We anticipate that the Charity will be funded by local councils, the Arts Council, English Heritage and other bodies. Its patrons will include Clare Summerskill, Sarah Waters, Valerie Mason-John and Shazia Mirza.
WEEKLY PROGRAMME
Under the direction of the Charity, volunteer events organisers will co-ordinate a varied and innovative programme within a framework of weekly theme nights.
We envisage the six themes will be as follows:
1. Monday - Film night: to include film screenings with discussions and guest speakers, Desert Island Films, and talks by directors, producers and actresses.
2. Tuesday - Literature night: to include book discussions, creative writing, poetry readings, storytelling, author signings, guest speakers, book fairs and related activities.
3. Wednesday - Sex and Sexuality night : to include guest speakers and discussions covering everything from sexual health to BDSM, and from monogamy/polyamory to sex toys.
4. Thursday - Social Networking night : to include singles nights, speed dating, wine and cheese tasting, and a wide range of other social events.
5. Friday - Performance night : to include comedy, fringe theatre, dance, live performance in all genres of popular music, and all other performance art by women artists.
6. Visual Arts - the Glass Bar will also host art and photographic exhibitions, to run concurrently with the rest of the programme.
